Talent and potential personified
Prior to Lando Norris winning the 2025 Drivers Championship, Lewis Hamilton was the last driver to wear the crown whilst driving for the McLaren team.
Hamilton’s talent was evident from the moment he stepped into the cockpit of an F1® car. Joining McLaren in 2007, he had one of the best rookie seasons of all time (tying with Jacques Villeneuve in 1996). Narrowly missing out of the World Title by a single point in his first year was a crystal ball look into what was to come for the rest of his career.
A year later, he would go on to claim the Drivers’ Championship for the first time. Hamilton remained with the Woking-based team until the end of 2012, enjoying six seasons with them and collecting 21 wins over the years.

After finishing third on his debut, Hamilton went on to set several records, including the most consecutive podium finishes from debut (9), the most wins in a debut season (4, a record shared with Jacques Villeneuve) and the most points in a debut season (109). All these feats made him become the youngest runner-up in championship history at the time.
